Background Details

Grimsel Test Site (GTS): Underground Research & Development URL - http://www.grimsel.com
The Grimsel Test Site (GTS) was established over 20 years ago as a centre for underground Research and Development (R&D) supporting a wide range of research projects on the disposal of radioactive waste.

Mont Terri Underground Rock Laboratory - http://www.mont-terri.ch
The Mont Terri Project is an international research project for the hydrogeological, geochemical and geotechnical characterisation of a clay formation (Opalinus clay).

ZWILAG Zwischenlager Würenlingen AG - http://www.zwilag.ch
Low and intermediate-level radioactive waste from the Swiss nuclear power plants and from medicine, industry and research is processed in Zwilag. The facility also provides interim storage for all types of radioactive waste and spent fuel assemblies from the power plants.
